Local Masonic Education

  • Henry W. Coil Masonic Library & Museum - The Grand Lodge of California opened the Henry Wilson Coil Library and Museum in 1997 at the California Masonic Memorial Temple on California Street in San Francisco. The museum contains over 8,000 titles and includes Masonic art and artifacts from California and around the world. The Museum seeks to: Tell the story of Freemasonry in California to Masons and to the general public; Serve as a research source for both lay and professional Masonic scholars and researchers; and Assist Masons who seek to increase and develop their personal knowledge of Freemasonry.
  • Northern California Research Lodge - San Francisco.
  • Academia Lodge № 847 - Monthly formal lectures on Masonic philosophy; informal discussion groups on each of the three degrees.

National Masonic Research Groups

International Groups

  • Quatuor Coronati Lodge № 2076 - Annual scholarly journal, $30/year (John Wade, Editor)
  • Jewels of the Craft - Quarterly journal dedicated to handcrafted Masonic jewels, $30/year
  • The Cornerstone Society - For the past decade, this society has held an annual conference at Freemasons Hall in London. There are no publications, but the website features transcripts of many of the presentations.
  • Canonbury Masonic Research Centre - CMRC's purpose is the study of western esotericism and related fields, in particular that of Freemasonry and the traditions linked to it.
  • The Centre for Research into Freemasonry at the University of Sheffield - Established by the university in 2001, the Centre undertakes and promotes objective scholarly research into the historical, social and cultural impact of Freemasonry, with an emphasis on British Masonry. The Centre is developing bibliographies, guides to research resources, and other research aids. The CRF also offers lectures, seminars and conferences. Many of the papers from these events may be found on their website.
  • Dormer Masonic Study Circle - Founded in 1938 and devoted to the pursuit of "a more profound knowledge and appreciation of the true meaning and purpose of the Craft system."
